People worshiping in the building

FIRST VISIT

WHAT TO EXPECT

We are excited for you to join us for a worship service! Our weekly gatherings are characterized by an eagerness to connect with our holy God through truth, worship, community, and mission.

We emphasize the truth of the Bible and its practical application for our lives; we worship God through song by focusing on substance over style, participation over performance, and modern music that is multi-generational; we value the building of community through small groups that meet on Sunday mornings and throughout the week; and finally, we are on mission to spread the good news of Jesus Christ in South Florida and the world abroad.  Read our Core Values & Beliefs HERE.

Beginning on Sunday morning at 9:00AM we come together for Bible study in small groups called "Growth Groups" or "Sunday Seminars." Growth Groups are long-term, community-, and Bible-based classes that emphasize God's Word and its application to all areas of life. Seminars are semester- or quarter-based classes that follow our Know, Go, and Grow track. Children also have Sunday School classes.  Following this hour, we begin our Sunday morning service promptly at 10:30AM.  Nursery care is available during all services for children ages birth-4 years.

The content of the gospel shapes our services. Each week, as we gather for corporate worship, we celebrate the gospel of Jesus Christ with a four-fold order of service: 1) Praise to God 2) Confession of Sin and Thanksgiving 3) Bible-Centered Teaching, and 4) Response to The Word.

The music we sing at SHBC is a blend of old and new. We love to sing hymns that are clear about the glory of God and the atoning work of Jesus Christ, and songs that accurately convey the sinful and redeemed nature of humanity. We are committed to congregational singing, which emphasizes the gathered body singing praise to God with one voice, over performed music, which tends to spotlight the abilities of some while encouraging passivity in the rest. Besides hymns that have stood the test of time, we enjoy singing songs written by Keith and Kristyn Getty, Sovereign Grace Music, and Indelible Grace. Congregational music also promotes substance over style, which allows us to learn doctrinally-rich music.

The preaching at SHBC is expositional, meaning that it declares the point of a particular biblical passage and then seeks to apply that truth to our lives. All preaching is driven by the Gospel, the Bible’s main message of God saving sinners through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

After the sermon, we encourage folks to stick around and continue building relationships. It is not uncommon to see people praying for one another, talking, and making plans for the upcoming week. If you are a guest, we encourage you to dive into the life of our church fellowship, which lasts well past the end of our services. We are a church committed to loving one another and invite you to be a part of building a godly, healthy, and thriving community centered on God and His people.

We have a large bookstore that is stocked with the most important book, the Bible. We have study bibles, Bibles in many foreign languages, journaling Bibles, and child-appropriate readers. Our books are carefully curated by our elders and include titles by the Puritans, J.I. Packer, John MacArthur, R.C. Sproul, and John Piper. We carry many parenting, marriage, family, and practical Christian living books. We also carry hundreds of Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) and Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF) biblical counseling resources.

If you have any further questions about our service or bookstore, please feel free to contact us.
