DECADE to DECADE

Sustaining Ministry Strengthening Community

Our Plan for the Future

An Overview of the Roof Renovation Project

Summary

  • Nearly fifty years of constant use have left our Worship and Ministry Centers with roof leaks and serious structural issues, making deferred maintenance no longer an option. Therefore, we launched a roof renovation project to solve all structural, aesthetic, and functional issues.

  • The renovation will protect these buildings, address underlying structural problems, and prevent further damage.

  • These improvements will reduce future disruptions to worship, ministry programs, and community events.

  • Investing in this project strengthens our church’s long-term presence and faithful stewardship in South Florida.

  • The project cost is $2.8 million and all donations to the Capital Improvement Campaign are tax-deductible. Would you like to partner with what God is doing in South Florida? Give today.

History & Vision

When a group of Christians gathered in the early 1960s to start a new mission church, they had a simple vision: to see the Word of God proclaimed in Hollywood Hills. At the time, the population of Hollywood was about 35,000 people, and was quickly expanding. As the population rose, newer buildings were erected to accomodate the many famiies moving to town. Our Worship Center auditorium, built in the early 70s, became a center point for many Christians in the area. By the early 80s, our church decided to build a Ministry Center to host weekly meals and Bible studies. Since that time, our Worship and Ministry Center roofs, AC units, and cedar shake mansards have supported nearly fifty years of constant use: thousands of Sunday gatherings, decades of school days, fellowship meals, weddings, funerals, holidays, and community events. They outlasted expectations. But leaks reached the Worship Center, and serious structural problems surfaced beneath the original cedar shakes. Deferred maintenance is no longer an option.

More than 60 years after our first worship service, our church believes that God has called us to this place and time in Hollywood, FL to uphold the Word of God. Our mission and vision is to see the Word of God proclaimed in South Florida. We believe it is in God's Word that people find lasting, eternal hope and peace. Although, preaching God’s Word does not depend on a building, wise stewardship does require that we care for what has been entrusted to us.

Many people, like you, gave sacrificially to see the vision of our church come to fruition. This renovation protects our buildings, reduces future disruption, and strengthens our long-term presence in Hollywood. Join what God is doing by giving to our Capital Improvement Campaign. Will you help be part of an institution that seeks to bring hope and healing to South Florida?

RENOVATION PROGRESS

The current roof project began in March 2025. Each building has three renovation phases. Phase 1 is complete for both buildings. The Worship Center is currently in Phase 2. And the Ministry Center is now complete.  The roof renovation is scheduled to be completed in Fall of 2026.  Below you can navigate to see before and after pictures of the phases.

PROJECT PHASES

PHASE 1: MANSARDS

In the first phase of the roof renovation, the mansard, which is covered in aged, green cedar shakes will be replaced with an entirely new metallic covering. The underlayment and plywood will also be replaced due to water and termite damage. After decades of enduring the Florida heat, humidity, and hurricanes, the mansards will be a welcome improvement.

PHASE 2: MECHANICAL

In phase 2, all the of the MEP commences. The roof renovation also includes much-needed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (drainage) improvements. Most of the units on both roofs are original and have lasted well beyond the life-expectancy, due to careful maintenance and good stewardship. Now, we are replacing all units that are over 30 years old with brand new, efficient Trane units. In total, there are 12 AC units on the Worship Center. These will all be removed and replaced with 7 new, efficient units. The Ministry Center has 7 units that will be removed and replaced with 3 larger units.

PHASE 3: MEMBRANE

Both roof coverings are original and have seen their fair share of patchwork. The original built-up roof is now deteriorating on both roofs. The Ministry Center has 4-inch foam insulation that will be replaced with the latest standards and code requirements. The Worship Center has a 3-inch Tectum deck. Careful engineering will increase the R-value in the Worship Center considerably, allowing for efficient cooling during summer months and heating during our very brief winters. Both roofs will then be layered with a TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) single-ply membrane. This should last another 20-30 years with proper maintenance and stewardship.
